Director Ashley Tata’s works have been called “fervently inventive” and like something that “reaches out across the centuries and punches you in the throat” by the New York Times, and “extraordinarily powerful” by the LA Times. Tata’s production of Kate Soper’s Ipsa Dixit was named a notable production of the decade by The New Yorker. Tata’s multi-media works of theater, contemporary opera, cyberformance, live music and immersive experiences have been presented throughout the US and internationally including at Theatre for a New Audience, LA Opera, National Sawdust, EMPAC, the Holland Festival and The National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing. Tata holds an MFA in directing from Columbia University and has taught at Columbia University, Mannes School of Music and the College of Performing Arts at The New School among others and is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor of Theater & Performance at Bard College. Tata’s recent work has been supported by residencies at BAM, The Mercury Store, Coffey Street Studios and a MAP Grant. Member of the Lincoln Center Theater’s Directors’ Lab, recipient of the Lotos Foundation's Emerging Artist Award in Arts and Sciences and a winner of the 2017 Robert L. B.
